Sisi penceritaan drama yang lebih lepas dan diganti dengan kehadiran sisi aksi yang lebih megah – meskipun tak seorangpun harusnya mengharapkan deretan adegan berdarah a la Games of Thrones hadir dalam Thor The Dark World mengingat Marvel Studios kini telah berada di bawah kendali Walt Disney Studios. Bukan hal yang buruk. Alan Taylor terbukti mampu memberikan keseimbangan ritme cerita yang cukup baik antara hadirnya momen-momen dramatis dengan deretan adegan aksi yang akan mampu menghibur penontonnya. Tentu, kehadiran guyonan tersebut tetap akan mampu memberikan hiburan yang cukup signifikan bagi penonton – termasuk guyonan yang menghadirkan cameo dari satu karakter superhero buatan Marvel Comics yang akan mampu memberikan kejutan serta tawa yang begitu kuat. Namun ketika deretan konflik tersebut dihadirkan dalam rentetan penceritaan yang kurang rapi, Thor The Dark World terasa hadir dengan kualitas penceritaan standar Hollywood pada film-film sejenis – sebuah kualitas yang berhasil dihindarkan oleh Branagh pada Thor 2011. Kekuatan utama dari Thor The Dark World jelas tetap bergantung pada penampilan para jajaran pengisi departemen aktingnya. Meskipun Anthony Hopkins telah terlihat begitu merasa kebosanan dalam usahanya untuk menghidupkan karakter Odin, Stellan Skarsgård dihadirkan dalam peran yang sama sekali tidak berarti apapun dalam jalan cerita serta Natalie Portman jelas-jelas diberikan porsi penceritaan yang jauh dibawah dari kemampuan aktingnya, Thor The Dark World masih mampu memberikan penampilan akting yang solid. Beberapa pemeran pendukung seperti Idris Elba dan Kat Dennings diberikan porsi penceritaan yang lebih besar dan kuat. Begitu pula dengan Rene Russo yang kali ini diberikan porsi penceritaan yang lebih emosional atas hubungan karakternya, Frigga, dengan karakter putera tirinya, Loki. Dua pemeran utama, Chris Hemsworth dan Tom Hiddleston, juga tampil dalam penampilan akting yang semakin dinamis. Hemsworth, setelah memerankan karakter Thor dalam dua film, tampil dengan kharisma yang semakin kuat sebagai Thor meskipun beberapa penonton akan menilai bahwa perannya dalam film ini tampil jauh lebih minimalis jika dibandingkan dengan apa yang dihadirkan oleh Hiddleston yang berperan sebagai Loki. Dalam Thor The Dark World, hubungan keluarga antara Odin, Thor dan Loki mendapatkan penggalian yang lebih mendalam. Hal ini memberikan ruang yang lebih luas bagi karakter Loki untuk mendapatkan porsi penceritaan yang lebih mendalam. Dan Hiddleston dengan begitu mudah menaklukkan karakter yang ia perankan. Tidak hanya ia menampilkan Loki sebagai karakter antagonis yang dipenuhi rasa bahaya, namun Hiddleston juga mampu memberikan sentuhan emosional yang kuat pada karakternya. Besarnya porsi penceritaan untuk Loki, sayangnya, kemudian membayangi karakter antagonis Malekith yang diperankan oleh Christopher Eccleston. Tenggelam dalam tata rias dan pakaian yang membuat penampilannya tidak lagi dikenali, Malekith mendapatkan porsi penceritaan yang tergolong sederhana untuk satu karakter yang digambarkan sebagai sosok yang begitu berbahaya. Sama sekali bukan sosok penjahat yang akan memberikan kesan yang mendalam bagi penonton. Secara keseluruhan, terlepas dari susunan naskah cerita yang kurang begitu mampu menata deretan konflik yang ingin dihadirkan serta beberapa penggalian karakter yang terasa kurang begitu mendalam, Thor The Dark World masih cukup mampu untuk hadir sebagai sajian yang menghibur. Alan Taylor tampil meyakinkan dalam mengelola banyak adegan aksi yang hadir lebih spektakuler walaupun masih kesulitan untuk menyajikan sisi drama yang lebih kuat dan mengikat jika dibandingkan dengan pengarahan Kenneth Branagh di film sebelumnya. Ditambah dengan kharisma menawan dari Chris Hemsworth dan Tom Hiddleston, Thor The Dark World berhasil hadir sebagai sebuah sekuel yang cukup baik meskipun jauh dari kesan istimewa. Dan seperti biasa, layaknya film-film produksi Marvel Studios lainnya, selain sebuah penampilan cameo dari salah satu karakter superhero Marvel Comics di salah satu adegan, Thor The Dark World juga menghadirkan penampilan dari Stan Lee serta dua adegan tambahan yang terletak di end-credit.
